School Board Candidate Statement of Platform

I am running for a seat on the Board of Education of the Mammoth Unified School District on the following platform:

• I take seriously the description of the role of the board as enunciated on the website of the California School Board Association:

1. Citizen oversight is the cornerstone of our democracy.
2. The authority of the board rests with the whole and not any individual member.
3. The board should assist with setting the direction for the district.
4. The board should establish and maintain an effective structure for the district.
5. The board should provide professional support to the superintendent and the staff as they carry out the direction of the board.
6. The board should ensure accountability to the public for the decision-making and smooth functioning of the district.

• No one seeking this office should arrive with an agenda. It is not the job of any one member to sway the other members to his or her point of view.
• The board functions as a whole and should work toward consensus and speak with one voice.
• As a board member I will always keep in mind the best interests of both the students and the community.
• My extensive background in education will help bring perspective and judgment to all matters brought before the board.
